Um, well..............since the expansion of LOTRO (Mines of Moria) things are different. There are new zones. Eregion, Moria, and then Lothlorien. Eregion can be started around 47 or so. At level 45 you can get a legendary weapon. This is a weapon that levels with you as you play and you get 'lengendaries' on the weapon that help your character. For example - You're a mini, so you may get legendaries that improve the amount of healing you put out or threat levels being reduced. For every level your weapon gains, you get points. Those point can be used towards your legendaries on the weapon.
Once you're through with Eregion you go into Moria. Some people love it, some people hate it. Truth is, you have to go in in order to get to at least level 57.
Around 57, you get to venture into Lothlorien. The key is to gain reputation (I believe Acquaintance) in order to get into the main Loth area. The few areas you will encounter first, however, will get you to max level 60.
PvMP, I don't play much. All creeps are level 60. If you go to the Moors below level 60, they will eat you alive.
The big thing about Moria is getting new gear, but this really is to do the raids. The gear is called Radiance gear. You have to run certain instances in order to get this gear (6 for 6 pieces of gear).
One raid we love doing, and really doesn't take long as long as we get him down in one try, is the Turtle. This guys is huge! He has 600k+ hitpoints, hits you will a poison (or disease, I really can't remember) and is mean. Key is to kill him in 5 minutes or the whole raid wipes.
Vile Maw is another raid. For this, you need AT LEAST 5/6 radiance pieces but if you are only 5/6 you have to do the Hope pop in Rivendell that is normally done before fighting the last boss in the Rift. 6/6 pieces is perfect. If you have less than 5/6, you cannot go because even if you just walk into the instance, you die.
The newest big raid is DM. I can't tell you anything about it because I haven't experienced it yet. But, I can tell you from what I've heard that it's hard....very hard.
There are also new 3-man instances. They're fun and good if 3 people are chilling with nothing to do. There is also a 6-man instance called Hall of Crafting. We like that one
On your journey to level 60, you will do other fun instances like Grand Stair or Treasury. They are fun and you will find that a lot of people like doing those instances over and over and over.
I am sure there is more than what I am telling you, but I'm very tired and a little drunk so I can't think of everything
Is LOTRO worth coming back to?
I say yes. New jewellery, new weapons, new gear. If you craft, there have been expansions in that area as well. They have these new things called Crafting Guilds. Once you get Kindred with the Guild, you can buy one-shot recipes that will now be REPEATABLE. But, the cooldown for the recipes is 6 days. But still, they are guarenteed crits and the best jewellrey, weapons and gear that you can craft.
My suggestion, come play with us!!! We always love it when people come back
