Today, around 3:30 pm we had to put one of my Norwegian Elkhounds to sleep.
Because you all are like family, i believe i should include you in on this. Its a big part of my absence from the game.
About 2 weeks ago Stryder, the one in the picture that's with me, started having seizures. He had about 1 a 2 week period. We took him to the vet, got it all sorted out. Well last Friday, he had 4 in a span of 45 minutes. We took him to the vet, they gave him anti seizure medication. the next day he came home with us. We thought that was the end of it.
Unfortunally, it wasn't. Monday while i was here at home, he threw up about 6 times. Which wasn't normal. We took him back to the vet. He had an enlarged spleen, caused by the whip worms (the things causing the seizures as well). well he was put on medication to decrease the swelling, and get him back to normal. He was throwing up because the spleen had grown large enough it had closed off the bottom tube of his stomach to his intestines.
He stayed at the vet's monday night. Bloodwork tests were done on tuesday, we went out to see him. He had an iv in his left paw, and a cone around his head. He just kinda laid in the cage and looked up at us. The vet told us there was more than what he knew about at work here.
Wednesday we went back, got him to eat some yogurt. Told him daddy was comming home ( dad was in camden at the police academy...he graduated today, 16th out of 83.). when he heard about daddy comming home, the ears flared up, and there was a fire in his eyes to survive.
Wednesday, he was doing horribly.
Wednesday night, the vet took a blood sample to the local hospital and had the lab tech count the white platlets ( the fighters ). Stryder had 34. out of a minimum of 15000. The lab tech asked if this was from a live dog, the vet replied, "Yes". The lab tech said, "thats impossible."
Stryder lived on through wednesday night by the grace of god...alone.
Thursday before we left for Camden we went to see him. He was just like a puppy....the calm before the storm. He was barking, running, playing... he was back to himself.
Thursday, he was dead on paper. but not by looking at him.
today comming home from Camden, we stopped in a small town on the way. About 2 and a half hours from my house. My mom looked down at her phone and realized she had a missed call, ( this was around noon ). she heard the voicemail, the vet said stryder wasn't going to make it much longer.
we made it home in an hour and 20 minutes.
we got here, and its the worst sight i've ever seen. My dog, wasn't my puppy anymore. He had brown around his eyes, his gums were brown, and his tongue was white. He was whining, becuase of the pain. I knew he wasn't going to make it much longer.
The best part was, the last thing he did.
We were standing outside with him, and he was taking a drink from a puddle (it had rained earlier). when he randomly started playing in it. me, mom, and dad all laughed, cause he hadn't done anyhting like that in a long time.
20 minutes later, i was sitting in a room with his brother, (sabre was there to make sure he didn't have the same thing, so far hes okay).
Sabre went berserk, and i knew what had happened...
I've never cried, but no matter the pride in me, i cried. That dog taught me more about myself than i will ever know. I still think hes here at times, and it hurts when i go to call him and he doesn't answer.
Im sorry for not being around much. With this, work, and school, theres not much time for fun and friends. I know he's safe, and im glad hes not in pain anymore.
we're taking his body monday to be tested, so we can know what killed him, but at this moment, no one knows.
What they always say is true, You never know what you had, until its gone.
sorry, this isn't punctuated correctly, im crying so hard i can't see the screen much anymore.
All i ask for is your prayers for his brother. I can't lose both of them, not this close.
Thanks guys, and girls. Sorry, it sounds like a story, and i wish it was. I wouldn't be so heartbroken if it was. Thanks for reading.
Thank you a lot kait, for the prayers.
